Background of the Study

Religion plays a significant role in shaping the moral and social framework of many societies, including Nigeria, where Christianity is widely practiced. Church communities in Port Harcourt, as in other parts of Nigeria, have long been bastions of traditional values regarding marriage, gender roles, and family life. However, with the rise of toxic feminism, which promotes radical gender equality and challenges traditional marital structures, there is a growing tension between religious teachings and the feminist push for autonomy and independence.

This study aims to explore how the intersection of religion and toxic feminism in Port Harcourt church communities influences marriage stability. It will investigate how religious teachings on marriage, fidelity, and family life intersect with feminist ideologies that reject traditional gender roles, and whether these competing perspectives contribute to shifts in marriage dynamics and stability.

Statement of the Problem

While both religion and toxic feminism have significant roles in shaping societal views on marriage, the intersection of these two forces in Port Harcourt church communities has not been extensively studied. This research will examine how the conflict between traditional religious teachings and feminist ideologies influences the stability of marriages within these communities.

Objectives of the Study

To examine the role of religion in shaping perceptions of marriage stability in Port Harcourt church communities.

To assess how toxic feminist ideologies intersect with religious teachings on marriage, fidelity, and gender roles.

To explore the impact of this intersection on the stability of marriages and family life in Port Harcourt.

Research Questions

How does religion influence marriage stability in Port Harcourt church communities?

In what ways do toxic feminist ideologies conflict with religious teachings on marriage and family?

How do these intersecting ideologies affect the stability of marriages in Port Harcourt?

Significance of the Study

This study is significant as it explores the complex relationship between religion, toxic feminism, and marriage stability in Port Harcourt. By understanding how these forces interact, the study will offer insights into the broader impact of religion and feminist ideologies on marital dynamics in Nigerian society. The findings will be useful for religious leaders, marriage counselors, and gender scholars interested in the interplay between faith and feminist movements.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

The study will focus on Port Harcourt church communities, specifically examining how the intersection of religion and toxic feminism influences marriage stability. It will not extend to other regions or religious communities outside of Port Harcourt. The research will focus on church teachings and feminist ideologies, without addressing the broader social, economic, or political factors influencing marriage.
