THE IMPACT OF TOXIC FEMINIST IDEOLOGIES ON INTERGENERATIONAL PERCEPTIONS OF MARRIAGE AND FIDELITY: A STUDY OF PORT HARCOURT FAMILY DYNAMICS

GENDER AND FEMINIST STUDIES
Chapter One Chapters
NGN 7000

Background of the Study

Toxic feminist ideologies, characterized by radical views on gender equality and the rejection of traditional gender roles, have contributed to shifting societal perceptions of marriage, fidelity, and family life. These ideologies advocate for extreme autonomy and challenge conventional views on family structures, often promoting the idea that marriage and fidelity should not be seen as obligatory commitments. As these ideas continue to spread across generations, they influence the way younger individuals perceive marriage and marital fidelity, creating potential intergenerational divides in family dynamics.

Port Harcourt, a major city in southern Nigeria, is a melting pot of traditional and modern ideas, making it an ideal case study to explore how toxic feminist ideologies influence intergenerational perceptions of marriage and fidelity. This study will examine how these ideologies are affecting family dynamics across different generations in Port Harcourt, particularly focusing on the influence of feminist thought on younger generations' views of marriage.

Statement of the Problem

While toxic feminism has reshaped public attitudes toward marriage and gender roles, its impact on intergenerational perceptions of marital fidelity and family life has not been well-studied. This study will explore how the spread of toxic feminist ideologies across generations in Port Harcourt has influenced perceptions of marriage, fidelity, and family structures.

Objectives of the Study

To examine the impact of toxic feminist ideologies on intergenerational perceptions of marriage in Port Harcourt.

To assess the role of toxic feminism in shaping views of marital fidelity across different generations.

To explore how family dynamics in Port Harcourt are influenced by the clash between traditional and modern views on marriage and fidelity.

Research Questions

How do toxic feminist ideologies influence intergenerational perceptions of marriage and marital fidelity in Port Harcourt?

What role does toxic feminism play in shaping family dynamics and marital expectations in Port Harcourt?

How do younger generations in Port Harcourt perceive marriage and fidelity in contrast to older generations?

Significance of the Study

This study is significant because it will provide valuable insights into how toxic feminist ideologies are reshaping family dynamics and marriage perceptions across generations in Port Harcourt. By focusing on the intergenerational impact of feminist thought, the research will help policymakers, educators, and family counselors understand the challenges posed by the clash between traditional family values and modern feminist ideologies.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

The study will focus on Port Harcourt and examine how toxic feminist ideologies affect intergenerational perceptions of marriage and fidelity. It will not extend to other regions of Nigeria or explore non-feminist influences on marriage perceptions. The research will focus on family dynamics and intergenerational differences, excluding other aspects of gender relations.
