Background of the Study

The corporate sectors in Nigeria, particularly in urban centers like Abuja, have witnessed a shift in gender roles as more women enter the workforce and pursue professional careers. However, the traditional societal expectations of gender roles, which emphasize the dominance of men in leadership positions and the nurturing role of women in the home, continue to exert significant influence. These expectations can often conflict with modern feminist ideologies, particularly toxic feminism, which advocates for radical shifts in gender relations and family structures, including the rejection of traditional marital norms and roles.

Toxic feminism, which promotes the complete dismantling of patriarchal structures, has contributed to changing perceptions of gender relations in the workplace and in relationships. This study will investigate how toxic feminist ideologies, juxtaposed with societal expectations of gender roles, influence perceptions of infidelity, particularly in the context of Abuja’s corporate sectors. The study aims to explore the relationship between these ideologies and the prevalence of infidelity, considering how corporate professionals negotiate these conflicting values.

Statement of the Problem

While toxic feminism has been linked to changes in gender dynamics and family roles, its specific impact on infidelity, particularly in the corporate sector, has not been fully explored. This study seeks to assess how toxic feminist ideologies influence attitudes toward infidelity, considering the tension between these ideologies and societal expectations of gender roles. The research will examine how these conflicting pressures affect marital fidelity among corporate professionals in Abuja.

Objectives of the Study

To explore how societal expectations of gender roles influence perceptions of marital fidelity in Abuja’s corporate sectors.

To assess the impact of toxic feminism on attitudes toward infidelity among corporate professionals in Abuja.

To evaluate the relationship between gender role expectations, toxic feminist ideologies, and the prevalence of infidelity in Abuja’s corporate sectors.

Research Questions

How do societal expectations of gender roles shape perceptions of marital fidelity in Abuja’s corporate sectors?

What impact do toxic feminist ideologies have on attitudes toward infidelity among corporate professionals in Abuja?

How do gender role expectations and toxic feminist ideologies interact to influence the prevalence of infidelity in Abuja’s corporate workplaces?

Significance of the Study

This study is significant because it will provide a nuanced understanding of how the intersection of toxic feminism and societal expectations of gender roles affects marital fidelity in the corporate sector. By focusing on Abuja, a hub for Nigeria’s political and professional elite, this research will provide insights into how these ideologies and expectations influence marital dynamics and contribute to infidelity in professional settings. The findings will be useful for gender researchers, corporate policymakers, and marriage counselors in addressing issues of marital fidelity in the workplace.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

This study will focus on corporate professionals in Abuja, particularly those in the private and public sectors. The research will examine how gender role expectations and toxic feminist ideologies shape attitudes toward infidelity in this demographic. The study will not explore the experiences of other sectors outside the corporate environment or the broader population’s perceptions of infidelity.
